The Cursillo Movement is introduced via a three-day weekend retreat called a “Cursillo de Christianidad” which means “short course in Christianity” in Spanish. This retreat includes daily prayer experiences, daily Mass, and opportunities for Spiritual Direction and the sacrament of Reconciliation. There will be morning and night prayer, rosary, and Adoration of the Blessed Sacrament.

During the weekend, a team of religious and lay people present a series of talks which are then discussed in small groups allowing for the sharing of personal insights. At the end of the weekend, candidates feel closer to Christ and have a better understanding of the power of the Holy Spirit, they know of Christ’s unconditional love for them and that they have been called through their baptism to spread the Word of God.

The Joliet Cursillo typically operates four weekends a year in English—two for men and two for women. The weekends scheduled below will be held at the Carmelite Spiritual Center (CSC) in Darien, IL. Weekends begin on Thursday evening and run through Sunday evening.

See the Weekends Schedule page for a complete list upcoming dates as well as prior weekend dates.

Serving on a Weekend Team

ll Fourth Day members are encouraged to become involved in presenting a Cursillo Weekend. A great way to prepare oneself for this endeavor is to regularly attend the School of Leaders meetings on the third Tuesday of each month at St. John the Baptist in Winfield.

Fourth Day members considering team participation should be prepared to commit to attending ten formation meetings which will be held at a time and place of the Rector/a’s choosing. Prospective team members must be actively participating in small group reunion.

Any questions should be directed to the Three-Day Co-Chairs (see Contact the Secretariat Page)
