but it was I who chose you and appointed you to go and bear
fruit that will remain. If God chose me to lead this weekend,
my only response could be, 'Yes Lord I will serve and I will
trust in your grace to guide me'.

"The Theme for the weekend is from Luke 10:2 - The harvest
is abundant, but the laborers are few.

"I ask that you prayerfully consider your availability to work
the team and also that you talk to God about sponsoring a
candidate for the Weekend.

To the Fourth Day:

I am thrilled to announce that the 2016 National Encounter
will be held in our own Joliet Diocese at Lewis University in
Romeoville, IL! [MAP]

For those of you unfamiliar with this annual event, think of it
as a three-day National Ultreya Grande for Cursillistas from all
over the United States.  This year's event was held at Villanova
University (near Philadelphia) and featured a range of
impressive speakers, workshops and a fiesta!  A number of
Cursillistas attended this year's Encounter from our diocese
and I was privileged to be in that number.  I can attest that
attendance is well worth-while.

The 2016 event will be held from Thursday August 4th
through Sunday August 7th.  Registration is through the
National Cursillo website and will commence on January 15th,
so mark your calendar or set an alarm on your phone to
remind you to register.  Attendance is limited to 600 and the
event can be expected to sell out.

Following below are several links describing the 2015 National
Encounter so you can get a sense of the event.

---------------March 13, 2015 ------------

To the Fourth Day Community:

I am pleased to announce that Jennifer Hoge has accepted the
call to be Rectora of the Joliet Cursillo's 121st Women's
Weekend.  The Weekend will be held from Thursday August
6th through Sunday August 9th at the Portiuncula Center for
Prayer in Frankfort, IL.

Jennifer made her Cursillo in April 2004 on the Women's 91st
Weekend.  She subsequently served on three Weekend teams.

Jennifer and her husband Dale are parishioners and staff
members of St. Joseph Parish in Bradley, IL.  She currently
serves as Religious Education Coordinator for the parish.

"It is with thanksgiving and great honor that I say 'Yes My
Lord!' to His call to lead the Women's 121st Cursillo Weekend
in August," declared Jennifer.  "Although I am a little anxious
and pray that I might lead with the same amount of grace as
other Rectora's, I welcome this journey with a humble heart
and am excited to serve with my fellow sisters in Christ.

"I ask for your prayers as our team joins together in formation
and that the will of God works through us as we joyfully share
the love and peace of the Holy Spirit with our candidates.  God
is good!"

"I am grateful that Jennifer has agreed to serve as Rectora for
the Women's 121st Weekend," added Fr. Matt Pratscher,
Spiritual Director of the Joliet Cursillo.

"May the Holy Spirit guide Jennifer, the Team, and all future
candidates as well as draw them into a deeper friendship with
our Lord, and may the intercession of St. Paul, the patron of
the Cursillo Movement, be a source of strength for
proclaiming the Good News."

Jennifer has discerned a passage from John's Gospel as her
Scripture verse for the Weekend.

It was not you who chose me, but I who chose you and
appointed you to go bear fruit that will remain.  This I
command you: Love one another.

John 15: 16-17

Now would be a good time to begin to discern if there is
someone in your life you would like to invite to attend this
Weekend.  The most recent Men's and Women's Weekends
were completely filled, so it is never too early to begin the
conversation with your potential candidate and God about the

---------------January 27, 2015 ------------

To the Fourth Day Community:

It is with great pleasure that I announce that Deacon Victor
Puscas has agreed to join the Joliet Cursillo Secretariat as
Assistant Spiritual Director. In this capacity he, along with
Deacon John Spiezio, will work with and support Father Matt
Pratscher, Spiritual Director, in spiritually guiding the
Movement. Deacon Vic takes the position previously held by
long-serving Deacon Tom Thiltgen who has stepped down.

Deacon Vic is a member of St. Mary Immaculate Parish in
Plainfield, where he and his wife, Beth Kingsbury-Puscas have
been active members of the parish and active in the Joliet
Cursillo.

Deacon Vic became a Deacon in August 2011 after four years in
formation. He recalled, "It was bittersweet at the ordination.
After four years of formation, I got to ascend to the altar, and
my wife got to wave goodbye.  But with Cursillo, we're able to
minister together, especially on women's Weekends."

Deacon Vic and Beth both made their Cursillo Weekends in
1989 in the Peoria Diocese. Deacon Vic has served on several
Cursillo Weekends since his ordination.

"When the Church talks about the 'New Evangelization',"
continued Deacon Vic, "I always think, what took you so long?
Cursillo has been doing the 'New Evangelization' since 1944!

"The word Deacon comes from a Greek word which means
'servant'.  I don't look at joining the Secretariat as an
opportunity to be in a leadership position as much as another
opportunity to serve the Movement and the people that have
given me so many wonderful graces."

Deacon Tom Thiltgen has served on Secretariat as Assistant
Spiritual Director since 2001, shortly after his ordination in
September of that year. Deacon Tom made his Cursillo
Weekend on the Men's 87th in 1994. He has served as a Deacon
on twenty-nine Weekends (Men's and Women's) and as a lay-
team member on numerous Men's Weekends prior to his
ordination.   Deacon Tom's support for the Movement has
been second to none and his sage advice will be missed at
Secretariat meetings.

"My service to the Cursillo Community has been a tremendous
gift to me and my wife, Mary," remarked Deacon Tom.
"Cursillo is one of the most powerful and life sustaining
movements in our Catholic Church and I am so thankful and
humbled to have been able to serve God's holy people as a
member of the Secretariat these past thirteen years. Bless
you!  Bless you!  Bless you!"

"I am grateful to Deacon Tom for the number of years he has
served the Cursillo movement in Joliet as Assistant Spiritual
Director," remarked Fr. Matt.  "Of course, he will continue to
be active in the movement, and I ask the Lord to bless his
work in Cursillo and the local Church.

"I am also grateful for Deacon Vic's 'yes' to serving on
Secretariat as Assistant Spiritual Director. He has been a
strong supporter of Cursillo, and we are blessed by his
dedication, energy, devotion, and counsel," added Fr. Matt.

Please join me in welcoming Deacon Vic as our new Assistant
Spiritual Director and most importantly, please keep Deacon
Vic, Deacon Tom and all of our clergy in your prayers.

Peace,

Tim Moore - Lay Director
Joliet Cursillo

Pat Simmons Named as Women's 120th Rectora

November 16, 2014 - For Immediate Release

Members of the Joliet Cursillo Fourth Day Community:

I am pleased to announce that Pat Simmons has accepted the
call to be Rectora for the Women's 120th Cursillo Weekend!

Pat is a member of St. Pius X parish in Lombard and has been
an active Cursillista since attending the Women's 93rd
Weekend in November of 2004.  Pat has previously served on
twelve Weekend teams and has also served on Secretariat
(2008-2014) as Recording and Communications Secretary and
Pre-Cursillo Chair.  This is her first assignment as Rectora.

"It is with a humble heart that I have said yes to the Holy
Spirit's invitation to be the Rectora of the Women's 120th
Cursillo," related Pat.  "I am very excited to do God's amazing
work accompanied by a joyful, spiritual core team. The
journey has just begun and as we make initial plans for our
team formation meetings I am sometimes overjoyed and
sometimes anxious, but mostly peaceful in the knowledge that
Christ has called us by name and He will lead our team to do
the work that He intends.

"I humbly ask our Fourth Day members to pray for our core
team and their families, for the balance of our team members
who will be discerning their call to work this Weekend and for
those candidates who are discerning their invitations to
attend. May God bless each one of you!"

The Weekend will be held from Thursday March 19th through
Sunday March 22nd at the Dominican Retreat Center in
Justice, IL.

"I am grateful that Pat has agreed to be the Rectora of Joliet's
Women's 120th Cursillo Weekend," commented Father Matt
Pratscher, Spiritual Director of the Joliet Cursillo.  "May the
Holy Spirit guide her and the team in helping the candidates to
discover anew the light of Christ they received in baptism as
well as lead them into a deeper friendship with Christ through
the Cursillo movement and sacramental life of the Church."

Pat has discerned the following Bible quote from Matthew 5:14-
16 as theme for the Weekend:

"You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill cannot be
hid. No one after lighting a lamp puts it under the bushel
basket, but on the lampstand, and it gives light to all in the
house. In the same way, let your light so shine before others,
so that they may see your good works and give glory to your
Father in heaven."

The first team formation meeting will be as follows:
When: Sunday January 11, 2015 from 2-5pm
(Formation continues every Sunday thereafter through
March 15th)

Where: Divine Savior Rectory basement [MAP]
(Rectory is located at the southwest corner of 67th and Main
Street in Downers Grove)

Asst. Rectora: Irene Murray (Our Lady of Peace Parish)
Palanca Chair: Mary Kay Jennrich (St. Pius X Parish)
Kitchen Chair: Paulina Engel (St. Walter Parish)

If you feel called to work on this Weekend, please pray about it
and consider joining Pat's team.  To work on a team, you must
be in active Group reunion and willing to commit to being in
attendance for 10 weeks of formation meetings.

Peace,

2014 Sposorship Workshop

To the Fourth Day Community:

Perhaps one of the most important aspects of the Cursillo
Movement is the support and care given by the Sponsor.
Sponsoring should be viewed as an important service provided
for the candidate in order to ensure the best possible
experience as the candidate journeys in faith from the Pre-
Cursillo to the Post-Cursillo. A sponsor sensitive to the needs
of the candidate will be of great assistance in this journey.

If you are a recent Cursillista looking to sponsor a friend or are
just looking for a refresher on sponsoring a candidate, please
join us for our 2014 Sponsorship Workshop.

SCHOOL OF LEADERS ANNOUNCEMENT

No one who lights a lamp hides it away or places it under a
bushel basket, but on a lamp stand, so that those who enter
might see the light.
Luke 11:33

The School of Leaders was established to be a "Community of
Servants" to the Cursillistas in the Cursillo community.  The
School of Leaders is to the Cursillo community what the Team
is to a Cursillo weekend.

All through Cursillo we are encouraged to fulfill the
commitments to our piety sheets in our daily lives in order to
maintain a healthy spiritual attitude. As leaders who profess
the teachings to be the truth, we must lead by example.  Any
man or woman who has attended a Cursillo may participate in
the School of Leaders. We welcome all to come once or many
times, it is always a blessing.

Through fellowship, we encourage each other in spiritual
growth and a growing appreciation of the Cursillo purpose,
mentality and method. The School of Leaders is a Servant
School and is open to all Cursillistas who are interested in
serving and strengthening the movement!  Bring a friend!
Better yet, bring your own Group Reunion to our meeting
once a month!  Any Cursillista wanting to learn more about
the Movement or become more involved is encouraged and
welcome to attend.

We meet the 4th Tuesday of each month, at 7:00 pm, at St.
Petronille in Glen Ellyn.  If anyone has any questions about
the School of Leaders, do not hesitate to contact me by phone
312-617-1240 or by email at
twmayer@yahoo.com.

Your brother in Christ,
Tom Mayer - Chairperson, School of Leaders

---------------November 21, 2013---------------

FROM OUR LAY DIRECTOR

To the Fourth Day Community:

It is with pleasure that I welcome two new members to the
Secretariat, Tom Mayer and Marybeth Filipowski.

Tom Mayer will serve as Chair for the School of Leaders. Tom
made his Cursillo in November 2011 on the Men's 122nd
weekend. Tom is a member of St. Petronille Parish (Glen
Ellyn) and he brings enthusiasm and vigor to the position. We
are excited about the possibilities for the School under his
leadership. I ask all of you to support Tom in this endeavor
and also to join us on the fourth Tuesday's of the month (at
7pm) for the School of Leaders reunion at St. Petronille. Our
next School is November 26th.

Marybeth will be our new Treasurer.  Marybeth is a member of
St. Elizabeth Seton Parish in Naperville. Marybeth made her
Weekend on the Women's 113th.

I also want to thank Joan O'Halloran for her service on
Secretariat over the past two years as Fourth Day Chair. We
will miss her good nature and love for the movement. Ed
Burjek who was formerly our Treasurer, has agreed to assume
this essential role.

Finally, I would like to draw your attention to a survey being
conducted by the Joliet Diocese. The purpose of the survey is
to gather input from members of the Diocese on what our
pastoral priorities should be. In essence, what we should be
doing to "build community and strengthen faith" in our
parishes.

The survey is brief (ten questions) and is anonymous. As
Cursillistas, we should have the perspective to be able to offer
constructive feedback in support of this effort. Please pray
about it and take the few moments to answer the survey.

    ---------------February 20, 2013---------------

Brothers and Sisters of the Fourth Day:

I am excited to inform you that Bishop Conlon has assigned
Fr. Matt Pratscher as Spiritual Director for the Cursillo
movement in the Diocese of Joliet.  In this capacity, he will
advise both the Spanish and English language efforts.

Fr. Matt was raised in Romeoville and ordained a priest for the
Diocese of Joliet in 2008. Before ordination to the priesthood,
he served the Parish of St. Walter in Roselle as a transitional
deacon in the spring of 2008. Since ordination to the
priesthood, he has served as parochial vicar at Visitation
Parish in Elmhurst and at St. Dominic Parish in Bolingbrook
and now as pastor of St. Francis Xavier Parish in Joliet.

Fr. Matt made his Cursillo weekend in 2006 as a seminarian
and has been a great friend to the movement, having served on
numerous weekends.  He is currently supporting the women's
116th weekend as spiritual director. When asked about the new
position, Fr. Matt responded, "I am excited to be the new
spiritual director of the Cursillo movement here in the Diocese
of Joliet. This movement has helped many of us to walk
together in the Lord and rediscover the presence of God's
grace in our lives and the gift of our Church and Her
sacraments. Cursillo has strengthened our friendship with the
Lord and inspired us to share this gift with others. I am
grateful to be a part of Cursillo."

I am also inviting all of you to join us in thanking Fr. Mark
Jendrysik for his many years of service to the movement.  We
will be recognizing Fr. Mark's contributions at a future closing
ceremony, so please watch these announcements for more
    details in the near future.

    De Colores!
